Summer Contests for Teens

Calling All Poets and Writers...

Rising 7th, 8th and 9th graders can enter the 12th annual For Love of Country© essay and poetry contest to win a prize and have your work read aloud at an awards ceremony in the fall. This year’s contest asks the question “Why vote?” Write an original essay or poem on the subject and submit it by August 14.

Priduction Card Photo.…Artists and Filmmakers, Too!

Take some creative liberties with the Teen Cover Art Contest. Choose your favorite classic or contemporary book and imagine what the cover would look like if the story were set in a fantastical world or another galaxy. Redesign the cover to tell that story, being sure to include the title and the author in your design. Submissions are due August 14, and first place and runner up prizes will be awarded in categories for grades 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12.

If video is your specialty, enter the third annual Teen Film Festival. This year’s theme is “My Life in 2020” focusing on biographical or autobiographical short films, and the submission period runs June 12-August 14. Winners will be chosen by teens in Fairfax County and will be announced in October during our TeenTober celebration.

More contest details and entry forms are available at research.fairfaxcounty.gov/teens.
