Summer Reading Celebrations

Summer Reading Celebrations

By Tina Mraz, Early Literacy Outreach Coordinator

School is out and children are ready for some rest and relaxation. However, having too much free time and extra screen time can lead to the summer slide, when children forget learned reading skills because they are no longer using them regularly. One way to combat summer learning loss is by participating in engaging reading activities during the time off from school.

FCPL's Youth Summer Reading Adventure is here to help children retain reading skills and foster a love for the library this summer! This year, FCPL and the Fairfax Library Foundation are excited to kick off the Summer Reading Adventure with two summer reading fairs. Both events will feature a petting zoo, outdoor activities, food trucks and information tables from the library and community partners. You can join in on the fun at Lorton Library on Saturday, June 10 and Chantilly Regional Library on Saturday, June 24. Learn more about the Summer Reading Adventure and the fairs here.
