Tabletop Role Playing Games (TTRPGs) are gaining in popularity and have increased widespread cultural acceptance over the last few years. While this is increasingly due to Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) being highlighted on popular shows like “Stranger Things” and the upcropping of numerous online actual play, or live play, shows like “Critical Role” and “Dimension 20,” it is also true that there is a larger variety of TTRPGs available now – meaning people with broader interests are being drawn into playing.
For those just diving to the world of TTRPGs or experienced players looking for inspiration, Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) carries a wide selection of guidebooks and manuals for a variety of different game systems. While D&D books have long been a staple of this collection, the library has recently expanded their selection to other well-known TTRPGs. For those interested in playing a horror-based game, we have various guides for “Call of Cthulu,” a game inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Or maybe you’re looking to boost your superheroes-inspired campaign? If so, you will definitely want to check out our books related to the “Marvel Multiverse RPG." We also have books on more open-ended gaming systems like FATE and GURPS. There is truly something for every player.
