Check out the winners of our inaugural short story contest.
In 2023, in partnership with the Fairfax Library Foundation, Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) held a short story contest for adults as a part of the Summer Reading Adventure. Entitled "The World We Write," the contest tasked participants with creating a 250-word story based off of one of five pre-selected prompts. The prompts were:
- Late one night, there was a knock at my door.
- Everything was going great…and then the dragons appeared.
- If only he/she/they hadn't bought the blue one.
- The world seemed like such a big place, until...
- <Name> was born to make mistakes and change the world.
Five winners were selected to received a $25 Visa Gift Card and a certificate signed by Jessica Hudson, our Library Director, and Lisa Bryant, the Executive Director of the Fairfax Library Foundation.
