Fairfax Recycles Day Is November 15

Aligning with the national “America Recycles Day,” Fairfax Recycles Day has been recognized by the Board of Supervisors on November 15 for several years. The County’s Solid Waste Management Program traditionally celebrates November 15 with various events, contests and giveaways.

In 2023, SWMP conducted a recycling survey, which garnered over 550 responses and helped us learn what types of information residents currently receive, as well as would like to receive in future.

2022 Photo Contest

The photo contest is simple, and contestants have two options for entering as follows:

  1. Take a photo of someone “recycling right”. It can be a selfie, a shot of the kids doing the right thing, or even something more unusual such as donating household items, or simply showing a recycling bin full of the proper recyclable items – see the “Recycle Right in Fairfax County” check sheet.
  2. Take a photo of a bad recycling habit. Have you seen a local recycling container full of inappropriate or unacceptable materials? If so, take a photo of it and write up a small paragraph on what you saw. Why is it bad? And how could they do better?
  3. Get creative and add some art onto your picture - make it unique with a powerful message!
