SPOTLIGHT PROJECTS

DPWES has selected the following projects to spotlight with detailed information regarding background, benefits, and what to expect.

Difficult Run Tributaries and Basins Restoration at Government Center Difficult Run Tributaries and Basins Restoration at Government Center This project will consist of approximately 1,600 linear feet of stream restoration using Natural Channel Design (NCD) standards and dredging of two amenity ponds to improve stream health and water quality. Lake Accotink Analysis and Feasibility Study Lake Accotink Analysis and Feasibility Study This project will remove about 500,000 cubic yards of sediment from Lake Accotink and establish an ongoing maintenance dredging program. Braddock District Accotink Creek
Accotink Tributary at Danbury Forest Stream Restoration (SD000031-179) Accotink Tributary at Danbury Forest Stream Restoration (SD000031-179) The project will restore approximately 4,000 linear feet of a tributary to Accotink Creek within the Danbury Forest neighborhood, upstream of Lake Accotink. Accotink Creek Tributary at Carrleigh Parkway Accotink Creek Tributary at Carrleigh Parkway The project will restore approximately 2,400 linear feet of unstable stream channel to minimize erosion and sediment loss, protect public infrastructure, and enhance site ecology. Dead Run at Georgetown Pike Stream Restoration Dead Run at Georgetown Pike Stream Restoration The project includes restoration of approximately 5,600 linear feet of Dead Run, its tributaries, stormwater outfalls and the floodplain within the stream valley between Churchill Road and Georgetown Pike. Tucker Avenue Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project Tucker Avenue Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project This neighborhood stormwater improvement project will evaluate existing drainage and stormwater infrastructure throughout the neighborhoods in the vicinity of Tucker Avenue and within a 67 acre drainage area that leads to the local stream, Pimmit Run. Little Pimmit Run Tributary at Woodland Terrace Stream Restoration Little Pimmit Run Tributary at Woodland Terrace Stream Restoration The project will restore up to approximately 1,000 linear feet of an unnamed tributary to Little Pimmit Run between Forest Lane and North Albemarle Street in McLean. Valley Avenue Neighborhood Stormwater Improvements Valley Avenue Neighborhood Stormwater Improvements This project will evaluate existing drainage and stormwater infrastructure in the vicinity of Valley and Fairview Avenues and Cross Street. Kent Garden Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project Kent Garden Neighborhood Stormwater Improvement Project This neighborhood stormwater improvement project will evaluate the existing concrete channel that conveys the majority of flow in the neighborhood and will improve the capacity of the system thereby reducing localized flooding and addressing public safety Dranesville District Pimmit Run
