2022 Community Meeting

Dolley Madison Boulevard at Dulles Toll Road

FCDOT held a virtual community meeting on May 11, 2022, on the Dolley Madison Corridor Study to share community feedback on improvement concepts and survey results from the previous community meeting, new alternatives and additional volume consideration as a result of COVID 19, study findings and recommendations. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback at the meeting.

To help focus feedback related to the Dolley Madison Corridor Study, FCDOT has released a brief survey on June 24 that included scenarios from the 2019 and 2022 community meetings. Surveys and comments closed July 8, 2022.

FCDOT ensures nondiscrimination in all programs and activities in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you need this information in an alternate format, contact FCDOT at 703-877-5600, TTY 711. Requests for assistance must be received at least 7 business days in advance of an event.

Supervisor John Foust and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) held a community meeting on the Dolley Madison Corridor Study on Thursday, June 13, 2019, 7 p.m., at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Avenue, McLean.

The purpose of the study is to analyze Dolley Madison Boulevard between the Dulles Toll Road and Old Dominion Drive and recommend solutions to improve traffic conditions. The team presented a variety of options with traffic model analysis, and requested feedback from the public on the short-term and long-term improvements presented.

  • Dolley Madison Boulevard Corridor Study Presentation - June 13, 2019
  • Concept 1: Three continuous lanes on Dolley Madison Boulevard eastbound
  • Concept 2: Three continuous lanes on Dolley Madison Boulevard eastbound through Lewinsville Road/Great Falls Street
  • Concept 3/3A: Restricted left turns from Balls Hill Road and/or additional lanes on Lewinsville Road
  • Concept 4: Dolley Madison Boulevard and Old Dominion Drive partial jughandle
  • Concept 5: Exclusive left-turn lanes at Lewinsville Road/Great Falls Street
  • Concept 6: Three westbound travel lanes on Dolley Madison Boulevard

In addition, FCDOT is considering the option of interchanges and letting the public provide feedback on this longer-term plan. If there is support for (an) interchange(s), FCDOT would then work to explore this concept by evaluating different types of interchanges and conducting feasibility work.

  • Alternative 1: Provide interchange at Dolley Madison Boulevard/Lewinsville Road/Great Falls Street, with no changes to Dolley Madison Boulevard and Old Dominion Drive (Image provided for location only.)
  • Alternative 2: Provide interchanges at both Dolley Madison Boulevard/Lewinsville Road/Great Falls Street and Dolley Madison Boulevard/Old Dominion Drive. (Image provided for location only.)

The survey and comment deadline was extended to July 31, 2019. Please reach out to the project team using the feedback form at the bottom of this page.

Study Background

Dolley Madison Boulevard - Lewinsville Road - Great Falls Street Intersection

Dolley Madison CorridorFCDOT is conducting a traffic analysis between Tysons and downtown McLean. To address existing conditions, the team has evaluated short-term solutions that could be implemented in the next 10 or more years. The intersections evaluated in the study include:

  • Dolley Madison Boulevard and Great Falls Street and Lewinsville Road
  • Dolley Madison Boulevard and Old Dominion Drive
  • Dolley Madison Boulevard and Ingleside Avenue
  • Balls Hill Road and Lewinsville Road
  • Chain Bridge Road and Great Falls Street
  • Old Dominion Drive and Ingleside Avenue

FCDOT also is considering longer-term solutions that include interchanges at the Great Falls Street/Lewinsville Road intersection and the intersection with Old Dominion Drive.

The FCDOT team presented these options, traffic models, benefits and potential impacts at the meeting on June 13. The team is seeking feedback from the community regarding desired short- and long-term solutions.
