The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold its first set of online community input meetings to present preliminary recommendations for the Fairfax County and Franconia-Springfield Parkways Alternatives Analysis and Long-Term Planning Study. Fairfax county residents will have three opportunities to participate in the meetings: 

• Wednesday, July, 29, 2020, 11:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. (Lunchtime)
• Thursday, July 30, 2020, 7-9 p.m.
• Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, 7-9 p.m.

Attendees must register with WebEx prior to the meeting using the link provided. The meetings will include a presentation by the study team and an opportunity for time for questions and answers. In order to facilitate the online meeting experience, FCDOT has put together a step-by-step process for registration, logging in and participating in the meeting.

Background

Over the last two years, FCDOT has held two rounds of community input meetings to gather feedback from residents and worked to identify deficiencies and future needs along the Parkway corridors. The goals of the study include creating a more efficient option for commuters while serving local residents, minimizing impacts to property owners and the environment, and exploring options for the corridors.

The study team will once again gather feedback and develop and evaluate final recommendations in its transportation models to ensure that the recommended improvements address future demand and commuter needs. FCDOT will present the final recommendations to the Board of Supervisors this winter. Once the Board of Supervisors have endorsed the Study, FCDOT will begin the process of amending the Comprehensive Plan in Spring 2021.

FCDOT will prioritize recommendations from the study to show what may be implemented in the near future or over a longer (10-50 year) horizon, as funding allows.
