On August 25, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors recognized Daryl Washington for his outstanding leadership, dedication to the Fairfax Community, and nearly 30 years of service in the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB).

Daryl Washington, now Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, had most recently served as the CSB’s Executive Director from 2018 through early 2026.

Members of the County Board of Supervisors lauded Commissioner Washington for his instrumental impact in advancing services related to behavioral health and for those with developmental disabilities in the Northern Virginia region.

Requested by Chairman Jeffrey McKay and passed by the Board of Supervisors, the following Resolution passed unanimously:

WHEREAS, Daryl Washington devoted nearly 30 years of service to Fairfax County, joining the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) in 1996 and serving in positions of increasing responsibility before becoming Executive Director in 2018; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Washington led the CSB through the COVID-19 pandemic, helping ensure continued access to critical mental health, substance use disorder and developmental disability services for residents; and

WHEREAS, he helped lead Fairfax County’s response to the opioid epidemic, strengthening prevention, treatment and recovery efforts and expanding community-based resources for individuals and families affected by substance use disorder; and

WHEREAS, under his leadership, the CSB expanded and strengthened its continuum of care, including crisis stabilization and peer and recovery supports, while improving access and integration and developing a comprehensive strategic plan to guide the agency’s future; and

WHEREAS, through decades of service as a clinician, administrator and executive leader, Mr. Washington leaves the CSB stronger, more accessible and better positioned to meet the evolving needs of the Fairfax County community; NOW THEREFORE

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, on behalf of all residents of Fairfax County, expresses its sincere appreciation to Daryl Washington for his dedicated service, leadership and lasting contributions, and wishes him continued success in his role with the commonwealth.
