Rikki Barton, MAPS, IC&RC
Rikki Barton has a passion for communicating essential messages to move individuals and communities onward in their goals. She is the CEO/Lead Consultant of Onward Consulting and holds the Certified Prevention Specialist certification. Rikki has nearly 20 years of prevention field experience and currently serves as a consultant to assist organizations, coalitions, and state/federal agencies in the areas of substance use prevention, suicide prevention, and mental health promotion. She has extensive experience working with community coalitions, providing training, grant writing, grant evaluation, managing funding sources, and leading a team of preventionists.
Marylou Bryan, BSN, RN
Marylou Bryan, BSN, RN is a Registered Nurse Care Consultant with the Office of Integrated Health Supports Network at the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. Marylou began her career as a certified nursing assistant, received her licensed practical nurse from Lord Fairfax Community College, then transitioned into the second year RN program where she completed her associates of Applied Science Degree. Following several years of nursing practice, she returned to school and received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Marylou has experience working in the hospital/clinical care settings, long-term care/geriatric, skilled home health, management of a personal care agency, training CNAs, PCAs, and Medication Administration, recovery/treatment detox, and with the intellectual and developmental disabilities population.
Dr. Hector Colón-Rivera, MD, MBA, MRO, FAPA
Dr. Colón-Rivera is a distinguished quadruple board-certified adolescent, adult, and addiction psychiatrist of the Pennsylvania medical community. He has broad experience in community-based programs, emphasizing those that help increase access to severe mental illness and substance use disorder treatments.
Dr. Mary Darden-Robinson, PsyD, LPC, LSATP, CSAC
Dr. Mary Darden-Robinson is a private sector therapist with 18+ years of experience serving the Hampton Roads, VA area in the mental health and substance use fields. As a clinician, Dr. Darden-Robinson emphasizes overall wellness by addressing everyday life situations while supporting adolescents and families with rediscovering their personal resilience. Additionally, her therapeutic style is eclectic with a foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). With an emphasis on entities such as healthy relationships, self-care, depression, as well as families and adolescents, she has a robust clinical background that consists of providing clinical treatment and therapeutic services. Clients have included the underserved and justice involved, the Department of Human Services, and the Family and Assessment and Planning Team(F.A.P.T.). Her experience also includes providing clinical services within residential, detention, academic, and community settings as well as the Medication-Assisted Treatment (M.A.T.) arena. Moreover, she is a Licensed Professional Counselor (L.P.C.), holds a certificate as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (C.S.A.C.) along with a Master Addiction Counselor certificate (M.A.C.). Dr. Darden-Robinson is a Human Services Board-Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP) and a Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (L.S.A.T.P.). Additionally, she is SAMHSA GAINS Center-trained as a facilitator for the "How Being Trauma-Informed Improves Criminal Justice System Responses" seminar. She is also a Master Trainer for the A.C.E. Interface Program. Lastly, Dr. Darden-Robinson is a Virginia Board of Counseling approved clinical supervisor for Residents in Counseling as well as L.S.A.T.P., L.M.F.T., C.S.A.C., and CSAC-A trainees. Dr. Darden-Robinson received a Bachelor of Science in Human Services Counseling with a minor in Psychology from Old Dominion University. Additionally, she holds a Master of Arts in Community Counseling from Norfolk State University and a Doctor of Psychology from Walden University.
Dr. Robert "Tony" Dice, CSAC, PhD
Dr. Tony Dice is a clinical therapist, nationally recognized counselor, trainer, author and presenter. As a former Firefighter, Paramedic, and U.S. Navy SEAL, he's in a unique position to understand and articulate the gap between conventional counseling and the culture of "those who serve." Dr. Dice is a subject matter expert in PTSD, TBI, suicide, and substance abuse. He previously served as Mental Health Director at EVMS's Ambulatory Care Center, and is currently an adjunct professor at Old Dominion University and CEO/Owner of Bishop & Dice Defense.
Dr. Michael Fingerhood, MD
Dr. Fingerhood is a Professor of Medicine and Public Health, and Chief of the Division of Addiction Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Fingerhood created the Comprehensive Care Practice in 1994, a primary care practice largely devoted to providing care to individuals with substance use disorder. The practice has been innovative in integrating buprenorphine treatment into the primary care setting for over 650 individuals. He has also co-created novel buprenorphine treatment programs at a community center, at a church and in a mobile van outside the Baltimore detention center. He is the co-author of The American Society of Addiction Medicine Handbook of Addiction Medicine and the recipient of the Baltimore City Health Department 2017 Health Equity Leadership Award.
Katy Maynard, AADC, LPC, ALPS
Katy Maynard, MA, AADC, LPC, ALPS is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Approved Licensed Professional Supervisor, and Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the state of West Virginia. She obtained her undergraduate and master’s degree from Marshall University. Katy specializes in substance use disorders, working for Marshall Health, Department of Family & Community Health, Division of Addiction Science. She has worked on the front lines of substance use treatment since 2010 in several different settings including residential, detox, outpatient and medication-assisted treatment. Over the course of her professional career, Katy has seen, treated, and addressed many changes relating to substance use disorders. Through local trainings and conversations based on her professional experience and knowledge, she provides a powerful insight into substance use disorder and its impact on the community. She has trained in a wide range of topics, including basic drug trends and trauma informed care. In addition, Katy is certified to teach Mental Health First Aid and safeTALK.
Dr. Shekila Melchoir, PhD, LPC
Dr. Shekila Melchior is the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships in the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at George Mason University, with over 10 years of experience working with diverse populations in clinical and school settings. She holds a PhD in Counselor Education and is a Licensed Professional Counselor and School Counselor in Virginia. Dr. Melchior’s research focuses on social justice identity development, undocumented students, and wellness for Black women and frontline activists. She is also the recipient of the Mary Smith Arnold Anti-Oppression Award and the owner of Mindful Legacy, a private practice in Northern Virginia.
Ben Stevenson, MS
Ben Stevenson II currently serves as the Prevention and Overdose Prevention Manager for Montgomery County, MD. He is a seasoned prevention professional who has been in the substance use prevention field for over 16 years working with thousands of youth, professionals, and parents in various communities across the country. Prior to his current role, Ben has served as Training Manager with CADCA (Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America) as well as served as a Training and Technical Assistance Associate with the SAMHSA's CAPT (Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies) with the Southeast Resource Team working directly with states providing training and technical assistance. He has worked in various capacities across the continuum of care throughout his career working in treatment and recovery in addition to his prevention work. Ben enjoys developing and facilitating prevention programs for youth and adults. He also serves as a National Master Trainer for the Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST). Ben is originally from Winston-Salem, NC and graduated from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC with a BA in Political Science and minor in History. He also holds a MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. Ben was first certified in prevention as a Substance Abuse Prevention Consultant in North Carolina and currently is a Certified Prevention Professional in Maryland.
Dr. Rob Trainer, DO, MBA
Rob Trainer is a practicing interventional pain management physician with additional board certifications in addiction medicine and anesthesiology. He works in the community setting providing outreach services to high school students and parents in conjunction with the US attorney's office.
