Transit Ridership Incentive Program (TRIP)

TRIP Program Transition to TRIP100

Fairfax Connector is transitioning from the current TRIP program, which provides a 50% fare discount, to the new TRIP100 program, which provides a 100% fare discount.

During this transition, current TRIP cardholders should continue using their existing TRIP SmarTrip card (silver label with the TRIP logo). Simply show your card to the Fairfax Connector driver and board the bus.

Please note:

  1. You cannot add value to your current TRIP card during the transition.
  2. Any funds already on your card remain available for use or transfer.
  3. Current TRIP cards will continue to be accepted as a flash pass for free Fairfax Connector rides until the new TRIP100 cards are issued.

Applications for the new TRIP100 cards will begin mid-August. Additional information about the application process will be shared as it becomes available.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we transition to the new TRIP100 program.

Welcome to Fairfax Connector's Transit Ridership Incentive Program. TRIP is supported by a grant from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT). The goal of TRIP is to reduce barriers to transit use by supporting low-income individuals.

BusTracker

Using BusTracker, you can access the scheduled and estimated arrival time of your bus on your smart phone, tablet or computer. BusTracker also provides route-specific alerts regarding service status, delays and detours.

NOTE: From time to time, unplanned reroutes, service disruptions and last-minute changes to service may affect the accuracy of the predicted arrival times generated by BusTracker.

Bus schedules are an excellent resource for learning how to get around. They combine timetables of all the trips a route makes with maps showing various points of interest along the way. Online schedules are available on the Schedules and Maps page of this site.

When viewing your schedule, you’ll notice the timepoints are listed across the top of the timetable. Find where and when you’d like to catch the bus and where you’d like to be dropped off. Keep in mind, these are not the only bus stops along the route. There are often stops every few blocks in between the timepoints listed.

Getting on the Bus

Find the Fairfax connector sign along your route and wait for the bus at the bus stop. When the bus pulls up, check the route number on the electronic sign on the front of the bus. If you can’t see it, ask the driver for the bus route.

Tap your TRIP 100 card on the farebox when you board and take a seat. You may stand holding the nearest hand strap or pole if seats are full.

Exiting the Bus

As the bus approaches your desired stop, pull the cord above the seats on either side of the bus to indicate you’d like to get off and make sure you have your belongings.

Exit the bus from the rear door and wait until the bus departs before crossing the street. This helps the boarding process go smoothly and keeps you safe.
