NOTICE: SNOW AND ICE REMOVAL

  • Fairfax Connector crews are responsible for snow removal at Park and Rides and Transit Centers.
  • Neither VDOT nor Fairfax County are responsible for clearing sidewalks and pedestrian pathways adjacent to bus stops. This is typically the responsibility of the adjacent property owner, business or homeowner’s association (though there is no legal obligation).
  • During inclement weather, bus operators are instructed to board and alight passengers at the safest location near the bus stop when the designated stop is inaccessible.

How to know if your route is impacted?

BusTracker Real-Tine Estimated Arrival Information
  • Riders are reminded that during inclement weather, route-by-route estimated arrival information in BusTracker may not be accurate.
  • If your route is on detour, the information presented in BusTracker will not reflect real-time estimated arrival information but rather the schedule information.
  • While on detour, a bus will not show up in the BusTracker location map view.
Allow Extra Time and Stay Safe While Traveling During Winter Weather

Fairfax Connector passengers are reminded to plan ahead and take steps to stay safe while traveling.

  • Plan ahead and decide on a route that keeps you waiting outside for the shortest time possible. It is important to arrive at your bus stop five minutes before the listed arrival time of your bus.
  • Watch your footing and take your time when walking in icy conditions.
    • Take small steps when you walk and slide your feet across the pavement rather than using your typical stride. If you have to walk up or down an incline, turn sideways and slide your feet apart and together in a sliding side-step motion.
    • Bend your knees slightly and ensure your feet are slightly apart for better balance.
    • Look at the ground while you are walking so you can see icy patches.
  • Dress appropriately for the cold weather meaning you are not exposing any skin to the cold, so you are wearing a hat, mittens or gloves, a scarf, socks, warm boots or shoes, and a warm jacket. Thick, loose clothing and lots of layers are ideal.
 Help VDOT Get Roads Plowed

In case of significant snow accumulation, it is critical that the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are able to effectively clear the streets and public safety can respond to emergencies. To help the process, please avoid walking in the streets, you are putting your life in danger.
