Election Participation Program for High School Students

Learn about the electoral process and
earn service-learning hours!

Are you at least 16 years old*, live in Virginia, and actively enrolled in high school? Would you like to learn more about the electoral process and earn service-learning hours that can also be applied towards the Seal of Excellence in Civics Education?

The Office of Elections is offering you the opportunity to serve inside a Fairfax County Election Day or early voting polling place as an election page. We also encourage students fluent in a second language to apply. This program only applies to November elections.

* If you are under the age of 18, the approval of your parent/guardian is mandatory in order to participate in the election page program.

What You Will Do as an Election Page

  • Complete the required online training class and pass the quiz.
  • Serve an 8-hour shift inside a Fairfax County Election Day or early voting polling place under the direct supervision of the Chief Election Officer.
  • Arrive on time and remain at the voting location during your assigned shift.
  • Maintain impartiality while serving — not discussing politics, candidates, or issues.
  • Dress appropriately: no shorts, sweats, or t-shirts.
  • Always use appropriate language and behavior.
  • Not receive compensation for serving.

How You Apply

We are no longer accepting new applications for the November 2025 election, and we are not yet accepting applications for the November 2026 election.

Recognition You Will Receive

  • If you complete your early voting or Election Day assignment, you will receive 10 service-learning hours, which include both your training and service at a polling place. A 'Certificate of Appreciation' will be sent to you following the election.

  • If you will be 18 on or before the November election, and are registered to vote in Virginia, you may work as a compensated Election Officer. Learn about Working at the Polls.
