On February 25, Stronger2 and its partners Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Zeta Chi Omega Chapter, the Ivy Foundation of Northern Virginia, Fundación los Niños de María, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Alexandria-Fairfax Alumni Chapter, and Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. held a health literacy health fair at Springfield Town Center. The event was both educational and fun, offering a variety of learning opportunities, activities, and prizes.
Twenty health-related groups participated and provided information to a crowd of engaged attendees on various health topics including heart health, prostate cancer, sickle cell anemia, HIV/AIDS, mental health, suicide prevention, Alzheimer's, uterine fibroids, and dental health. Activities included health walks, exercise classes, and blood pressure checks. Attendees were also treated to a healthy cooking demo of vegan pumpkin chowder put on by Reverend Dr. Kennedy and his wife June Kennedy of Emmanuel Worship Center.
This successful health literacy health fair highlights the importance of collaboration, connection, and accessibility in bringing public health to the people.
