We’re tracking our progress as a community toward a greener future with the Climate Action Viewer from our Office of Environmental and Energy Coordination.
The Climate Action Viewer is an interactive map tool that pinpoints sustainable actions like green buildings, solar installations, EV charging infrastructure, recycling centers and tree canopies throughout the county.
Use the map to find opportunities for climate action near you including where to bring compostable waste, recycle glass and charge your electric vehicle.
Community-wide Energy and Climate Action Plan
The Climate Action View is driven by our Community-Wide Energy and Climate Action Plan (CECAP) and Operational Energy Strategy (OES).
The CECAP is a community-driven greenhouse gas emission reduction plan with the goal of achieving energy carbon neutrality across government operations by 2040 and community-wide carbon neutrality by 2050.
Since the plan’s implementation, we’ve made progress in reducing emissions in the community and county.
Most greenhouse gas emissions in Fairfax County come from buildings and transportation. Currently, all new eligible buildings in the county have committed to be green. The community has also surpassed its goal of increasing transit, non-motorized transit and telework commuting.
