The Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) Northern Virginia Paving Program improves hundreds of miles of roads in Fairfax County every year. VDOT and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) use this program as an opportunity to increase safety for people who walk, bike, and drive with road and crosswalk improvements while minimizing the financial investment in restriping work.
Through the restriping program, FCDOT reviews VDOT’s draft repaving list and searches for opportunities to add new active transportation improvements through striping modifications. These improvements typically include bike lanes, crosswalks, and road diets.
FCDOT staff will host virtual public information meetings to provide an overview of proposed restriping projects in each affected district. Please refer to the table below for upcoming district meetings, proposed locations and feedback instructions.
A recording of each meeting, along with any shared slides, will be uploaded to this webpage shortly after the meeting concludes. Residents will then have two weeks to submit comments and respond to a survey about each proposed project.
Note: VDOT has not finalized its 2026 repaving list. FCDOT’s restriping proposals depend on VDOT repaving the respective roadways. If VDOT delays repaving any of these roadways, the proposed restriping will also be postponed. All improvements are subject to VDOT approval.
