Bike Rooms

Herndon Bike RoomThe Wiehle-Reston East Station features Fairfax County’s first enclosed, secure bicycle parking facility. The bike room has a capacity for more than 200 bicycles and provides both floor-mounted bicycle racks as well as vertical space saver racks.

The Herndon Station Bike Room (pictured) has a capacity to store 120 bicycles. Other amenities at Wiehle-Reston East and Herndon include:

  • Bench seating
  • Parking for oversized bikes/bikes with trailers
  • Two ”fix it” stations featuring a work stand, an assortment of commonly used bike tools, and an air pump

The Stringfellow Park and Ride Station features a secure bicycle parking facility with 60 bike parking spaces. 

The Innovation Center Metrorail Station opened in November 2022 and features a secure bike room for up to 100 bicycles, along with two repair stations and a bottle-filling station. Innovation Center is located at 13747 Sunrise Valley Drive, Herndon.

Access to these rooms is controlled electronically. Each subscriber will be issued an access key fob that will allow entry to the room 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week. You must subscribe to use these facilities.

At just $5 per month, the yearly membership fee for 24/7 access to all County-owned secure bike rooms is $60. The County is also offering a 6 Month membership at a reduced fee of $40 and a two year membership at $100. In addition, there is a one-time, non-refundable administrative fee of $15.

Bike Lockers

Burke Centre VRE Bike LockersA bicycle locker is simply a garage for your bike. It provides a way to store your bicycle securely out of the elements of rain, sun and snow. They are usually located at transit transfer centers such as park and ride facilities.

Throughout Fairfax County, bike lockers are managed by the Fairfax County of Transportation (FCDOT), the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation currently manages bicycle lockers at the following locations:

Herndon Metrorail Station
12530 Sunrise Valley Drive
Ten lockers are located at the east end of the bus platform.

Reston South Park and Ride
2531 Reston Parkway
Ten lockers are located on the platform adjacent to the bus shelters.

Reston Town Center Transit Station
12051 Bluemont Way
Ten lockers are located on the island adjacent to Bluemont Way.

Spring Hill Metro Station Kiss and Ride
1576 Spring Hill Rd, Tysons, VA 22182
Ten lockers owned and operated by Fairfax County are located on the east side of the Metro Station.

Burke Centre VRE Station

Ten lockers are located in the bus loading area against the parking garage wall.

Backlick Road VRE Station
6900 Hechinger Driver, Springfield
Ten lockers are located on the walkway in front of the platform.

WMATA provides lockers at most Metrorail stations. You can get additional information about these lockers by calling the WMATA Bicycle Information Line 24 hours a day at 202-962-1116.

VDOT leases lockers at state-owned/maintained park and ride lots in Fairfax County as well as Prince William and Loudoun Counties. For Information and availability, contact VDOT’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Coordinator at 703-383-2233.

At just $5 per month, the yearly rental fee for a FCDOT bike locker is $60. In addition, there is a one-time, non-refundable administrative fee of $10 and a key deposit of $50 (refundable when you return your key).

Therefore, users will pay $120 their first year, and $60 per year to renew their rentals in subsequent years.

FCDOT reserves the right to access lockers for maintenance and inspection to ensure they are working properly only being used for their intended purpose.
