2026 Roadway Restriping Program

The Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) Northern Virginia Paving Program improves hundreds of miles of roads in Fairfax County every year. VDOT and the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) use this program as an opportunity to increase safety for people who walk, bike, and drive with road and crosswalk improvements while minimizing the financial investment in restriping work.

Through the restriping program, FCDOT reviews VDOT’s draft repaving list and searches for opportunities to add new active transportation improvements through striping modifications. These improvements typically include bike lanes, crosswalks, and road diets.

FCDOT staff will host virtual public information meetings to provide an overview of proposed restriping projects in each affected district. Please refer to the table below for upcoming district meetings, proposed locations and feedback instructions.

A recording of each meeting, along with any shared slides, will be uploaded to this webpage shortly after the meeting concludes. Residents will then have two weeks to submit comments and respond to a survey about each proposed project.

If you would like to request road repairs, please follow the "I need a road repaired" link on the VDOT portal or call 1-800-FOR-ROAD (1-800-367-7623).

Information for Residents

  • VDOT will begin repaving and restriping roadways in the spring and conclude in November 2026. Exact work dates are available approximately ten days prior to work beginning, as contractors set schedules based on personnel and equipment availability.
  • Residents can expect work vehicles in their neighborhood during the project.
  • Motorists are asked to be alert to temporary traffic patterns. Cars, basketball hoops or garbage cans may need to be temporarily relocated while work is under way.
  • On other roads such as interstates and some primaries, work may occur overnight.
