Mature Living: Emergency Preparedness

Emergency preparedness is often not in the forefront of anyone’s mind – until there is an emergency. In the first part of Mature Living, Braddock District Supervisor John Cook and Seamus Mooney, coordinator of the county’s Office of Emergency Management, discuss what residents need to do to prepare themselves and how neighbors can work together to help each other during an emergency. In the second half of the show, Courtney Arroyo, Outreach and Disabilities Integration Liaison with the Office of Emergency Management, and Jonathan Keil, an OEM Corps Volunteer, discuss their outreach efforts that help residents, and particularly older adults, prepare for an emergency.  The mid-show portion features a representative from the county’s Elderlink program sharing tips on emergency preparedness that older adults, caregivers and people with disabilities should keep in mind. Finally, two residents discuss their own emergency planning efforts.  Find service, recreation, and community engagement information for older adults at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/older-adults  or call 703-324-7948.
