Mature Living: Seniors and Sports

This edition of Mature Living focuses on “Seniors and Sports.”  Research confirms that exercise is vital to both our physical and mental health as we age.  In the first half of the program Beth Hersey, a charter member of Golden Girls Softball, and Jay Holmes, a champion horseshoes competitor, discuss the positive aspects of participating in sports. In the second half of the show, Bill Bouie, Chairman of the Fairfax County Park Authority, and Mary Jane Desonia Dye, Editor of Fairfax County’s Golden Gazette, discuss the myriad of sports opportunities for seniors in Fairfax County, and how seniors can get involved. The mid-show portion of our program features, Laurie Strickland, Fitness Director of South Run RECenter, as well as a variety of seniors who share how they got started in sports, and the benefits they reap as a result of this exercise.  Find service, recreation, and community engagement information for older adults at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/olderadults or call 703-324-7948.  (CC)
