If someone you care about who has a developmental disability is experiencing a crisis due to behavioral or psychiatric needs, call REACH at 855-897-8278.
Crisis stabilization and related services, collectively known as “REACH” (Regional, Education, Assessment, Crisis Services, Habilitation) are available 24/7 for children, youth and adults who have developmental disabilities and who live in areas served by the following Community Services Boards (CSBs): Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax-Falls Church, Loudoun, Northwestern, Prince William, Rappahannock Area, and Rappahannock-Rapidan.
As of January 1, 2018, thanks to a new regional contract, all REACH services – regardless of the age of the person served – will be provided through one service provider and accessed through a single 24/7 telephone number: 855-897-8278. Previously, services for children/youth and adults were provided by two different vendors and accessed through two different phone numbers.
The Northern Virginia Regional Projects Office, which manages regional initiatives of the local community services boards, awarded the new “lifespan” REACH services contract to Easterseals UCP, which had previously provided REACH services for adults only.
“The main thing for people to know is that they can now call REACH for help handling a crisis involving someone with a developmental disability, regardless of the person’s age,” explains Jean Post, director of the Northern Virginia Projects Office. “You can call any time, 24/7, for expert assistance from people who understand how to work effectively with children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities to help stabilize and prevent crisis situations.”
