Permanent Supportive Housing options for people receiving CSB services

In 2024, Virginia committed to creating 300 Permanent Supportive Housing units in Fairfax County over three years. The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) plays a key role in this work.

What is Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH)?

The PSH program provides stable housing and behavioral and primary health care services to people with serious mental illness. The program provides a rent-subsidized place to live (meaning you get financial help to lower your rent payments) along with resources like counseling and other support.

How does CSB help with PSH?

The CSB team helps with referrals, coordinates support services and provides funds to help people get started in their new homes. One of the most important parts of the program is Critical Time Intervention, or CTI. CTI is a short-term, hands-on support model that helps people during major life changes. It connects people to community resources, helps them stay engaged in care and builds a strong foundation for long-term success.

The CTI team includes a supervisor, three case managers and a Peer Recovery Ally — someone who uses their own lived experience to support others. Additional CSB staff help with client assistance funds and referral coordination.
