For decades, Cindy Han has been a champion of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community both nationally and locally.
Cindy acted as President George H.W. Bush’s representative to the Northern Mariana Islands. In 1989, she joined President Bush for the annual signing of the proclamation for Asian-Pacific American Heritage Week.
Cindy is an active volunteer, serving as Chairperson for Family Counseling Center of Greater Washington, a nonprofit organization that aims to improve the overall mental health and wellbeing for people living in underserved areas, from 2017-2021. While in this role, Cindy worked to improve the quality of life of individuals and families in and around Fairfax County through promoting counseling services and education programs.
Cindy is a member of the Health Department’s Multicultural Advisory Council, a group of leaders from faith-based communities, nonprofit organizations, community groups, the medical community, and other health-related organizations that provides the Health Department with grassroots-level insights on community health needs and concerns through a cultural lens.
As a Multicultural Advisory Council member, Cindy works closely with the Health Department on many events. One particularly successful event was the “Fight Suicide” Walk-a-Thon held in 2021 at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston. Hundreds of community members participated.
Cindy serves on the Board of Trustees for Family and Children’s Trust Fund of Virginia, a public-private partnership that raises funds for the prevention and treatment of family violence.
“Cindy Han is a great leader in the Asian American Pacific Islander community,” said Binbin Yang, community health specialist with the Fairfax County Health Department. “Her volunteer work provides service and care to people in underserved areas of the Fairfax Health District is amazing.”
May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, and the Health Department is recognizing local community leaders who have made health happen in Fairfax.
