Officials hear the stories of local high school students and their passion for public health
Teens from the Health Department’s Youth Ambassador Program welcomed a team of public officials from federal and local government agencies recently. The dignitaries were interested in learning more about the Youth Ambassador Program and enjoyed an informative session with students.
Leaders from the White House Office of Management and Budget, the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors were able to watch the program in action at Mount Vernon High School. While there, attendees joined a classroom where they engaged in the student curriculum and asked the students questions about their work, projects and assignments. The group of attendees also visited Justice High School where Ambassadors networked with officials and engaged in conversation about the program and their interests.
“The Public Health Youth Ambassador Program provides real life experience to students. This afforded the students the opportunity to present to health leaders and engage in conversation about their ‘real lives’ and program benefits,” said Anthony J. Mingo, Sr., Director, Community Health Development, Fairfax County Health Department.
