County Heat Plan Activated for Thursday, July 4

picture of hot temperaturesThe National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory in effect from noon to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. In response, Fairfax County has activated its Heat Plan for Thursday, July 4.

When Fairfax County’s heat plan is activated, cooling centers around the county will be available during normal operating hours for individuals needing relief from the heat.* These cooling centers will also have supplies available including bottled water, sunscreen and insect repellant.

Since Thursday is the Independence Day holiday, the county government is closed, which means that most county facilities utilized as cooling centers will not be available. All Rec Centers are open and available for cooling until 4 p.m. In addition, the three emergency shelters for single adults will activate day and night overflow shelter capacity. Residents are encouraged to check our status page or contact the facility in advance to verify they are open.
