CALL TO ORDER:

Commissioner Chair Crawford called the Wednesday, January 21, 2026 Commission Meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. 

 

Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Malik that the January 21, 2026 agenda be approved as presented. The motion passed by unanimous vote. 

 

Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Commissioner Salinas and seconded by Commissioner Elwannas that the minutes of the December 3, 2025 Commission meeting be approved as amended. The motion passed with unanimous vote. 

 

STAFF ISSUES:

 

Fair Housing Month: Director Simms informed the Commission that OHREP is in the early stages of planning a Fair Housing Month event. He noted that the office is preparing a proclamation, and Commissioners will be notified when it is scheduled for presentation. 

 

Commission Training: Director Simms asked the Commission to review the training manual and encouraged members to reach out to him with any questions. 

 

COMMISSION BUSINESS:

 

FIR- HRC # 2025047H/HUD # 03-25-6165-8: Ash-Piper, Wren and Jessica v. Casazza, Zachary, et al: It was moved by Commissioner Malik and seconded by Commissioner Boone, that the complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Fairfax County Fair Housing Act has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP. The motion passed by unanimous vote. 

 

FIR- HRC # 2025196H/ HUD # 03-25-6369-8: Pagliuco, Jeanette v. Catherine Butler and Lisa Nelson: It was moved by Commissioner Malik and seconded by Commissioner Boone that the complaint be dismissed due to insufficient evidence that a violation of the Fairfax County Fair Housing Act has occurred consistent with the recommendation of OHREP. The motion passed by unanimous vote. 

 

COMMUNITY CONCERNS: None. 

 

PENDING BUSINESS: None. 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Fair Housing Task Force: Fair Housing Manager Deanda Shelton invited Commissioners to share suggestions for the Fair Housing Task Force. The Task Force plans to revise its bylaws to align with the Commission’s goals. Director Simms will compile the proposed changes and present them at an upcoming meeting.
