Joint Board Matter with Chairman Jeffrey McKay and Lee District Supervisor Rodney Lusk

Last year in the FY 2020 budget markup, the Board gave direction to staff on a number of affordable housing issues, including development of a package of innovative land use policies to further facilitate the development of affordable housing beyond the stated goal of 5,000 units. Several of those land use reforms are now in process. At the Board’s Health, Housing and Human Services Committee in September 2019, the Board was advised that an update on those reforms would be brought forward at the next committee meeting. This update was deferred to the new Board in order to facilitate the prioritization of the remaining land use reform initiatives identified in the 2019 Affordable Housing Resources Panel (AHRP) recommendations. Therefore, Chairman, I would ask that staff, in conjunction with Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust who chairs the Housing Committee, present a status update and method for prioritization of these potential reforms for Board discussion at a future Housing Committee meeting.
