Background:
Mr. Chairman, I was proud to witness history in the making two weeks ago as the South Lakes High School Boys Basketball Team won its first ever state championship. The Seahawks took home the boys Virginia Class 6 State Championship in what the Washington Post called an “unlikely blowout.” The team won despite having their star junior guard Jordan Scott having a broken thumb on his shooting hand. And while this is the first state championship for the boys team, the 1986 South Lakes girls won states with a star player named Christy Winters on the team – now Christy Winters Scott and, among many other hats she wears, the mother of the same Jordan Scott. South Lakes sports fans have been proud of the great basketball tradition in Reston over the years and can now be proud of this exciting boys state championship team.
Motion:
Therefore, Mr. Chairman, I ask that the Office of Public Affairs prepare a certificate of recognition for the team to be presented at the Board of Supervisors meeting on May 7.
