Background:
Mr. Chairman, James Madison High School has had a notable number of state championships,
but the Girls Basketball Team has become – and this is the term used in the sports world – a
high school sports dynasty. Under the leadership of Coach Kirsten Stone, these athletes
recently won their fourth consecutive Virginia 6A State Championship. As noted by The
Washington Post, during their tournament run the team was considered both a powerhouse and
an underdog, since several veteran players had graduated last year.

Motion:
Therefore, Mr. Chairman, I ask that the Office of Public Affairs prepare a certificate of
recognition for the team to be presented at a Board of Supervisors meeting, or at a time and
location that is convenient for the school and these student athletes.
