PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The Laurel Hill Community Garden Plots are located at the former Nike Missile Site in Laurel Hill Park. The project included the construction of nineteen 20-foot by-30-foot fenced plots, each with three raised beds at 4-feet-by-12 feet; two water hydrants; stone dust surfacing; and parking lot striping. Key design features included several accessibility conveniences with hard-packed surface, wide aisles and doorways, and the installation of the raised garden beds as opposed to in-ground planting.

The total project cost was $202,465, with majority of the funding provided by means of Stormwater Management Penalty Funds.

The Fairfax County Park Authority rents more than 700 garden plots in 11 county parks to Fairfax County residents on an annual basis. For more information, please visit the Fairfax County Park Authority’s Community Garden Plot Rental Program webpage.
