Alert:
Nature and Natural Resources
Fall in Fairfax County means more than just colorful foliage. Our bustling deer population is gearing up for the mating season, known as the "rut," and is becoming exceptionally active. These graceful creatures are on the move during those precious pre-dawn to mid-morning and dusk to early evening hours, which coincides with many residents' daily commutes. Be extra vigilant, as around half of all deer-vehicle collisions occur during the months of October, November, and December. The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) partners with a variety of universities, the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR), the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the Smithsonian Institution to conduct wildlife research throughout our parks.
