Park Volunteer Team (PVT) Program Guidelines

Are you interested in forming or joining a team of volunteers to support a park site or agencywide program? The Park Volunteer Team (PVT) Program is a great opportunity for county residents and visitors to work with other volunteers who share their appreciation and passion for the parks. PVTs are volunteer-led teams who offer support for a site [or an agencywide program]. The PVT volunteers are able to develop and implement their own services  and work in coordination with site plans and programs. PVT volunteer services help advance the mission of the site and embody the Park Authority mission and vision to inspire a passion for parks amongst visitors and the community.

PVTs that coordinate fundraising activities to support their respective program or site will make their donation to the Fairfax County Park Foundation, which will then transfer the funds to the Park Authority in a donation account specific to that program or site. The donations will only be used in whatever manner has been agreed to by the site/program liaison and the PVT Lead.

The Park Volunteer Team (PVT) Program is an option for individual volunteers interested in working as a team to provide recurring operational, programmatic, maintenance, and/or fundraising support for a Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) site or program. The PVT Program promotes dynamic and collaborative volunteer opportunities for volunteers. Each PVT may have a lead or co-leads and will work with FCPA staff to identify volunteer opportunities best suited for the site or program and that particular PVT. FCPA will create a volunteer opportunity (e.g. watershed clean ups) on the County’s Volunteer Management System (VMS) for each PVT. Volunteers can sign up to participate in a PVT volunteer opportunity through VMS or in person.

All individuals who volunteer on a PVT are covered by the County’s Volunteer Insurance Policy so long as they act within the scope of the Volunteer Program and the Standards of Conduct. The PVT Program may also serve as a stepping stone to form an organization, such as a Friends Group in the future.

Additional volunteer opportunities, programs, and partnership opportunities for individuals or organizations can be explored here.
