For Immediate Release
May 8, 2024
The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will host a community meeting to present three concepts for Wiehle Avenue on Thursday, May 23, 2024, 7 p.m., at Langston Hughes Middle School. Concepts include lane reductions, wider sidewalks and landscaped buffers, dedicated bicycle facilities and roundabouts.
Attend the Meeting:
- Location: Langston Hughes Middle School Lecture Hall, 11401 Ridge Heights Road, Reston, VA 20191
- Date: Thursday, May 23, 2024
- Time: 7-9 p.m.
FCDOT developed the current concepts based on feedback gathered at its workshop last November. Similarly, feedback from the May presentation will help inform a "Preferred Alternative" for the future of Wiehle Avenue. FCDOT hopes to announce the Preferred Alternative by the end of this summer.
The area included in the Wiehle Avenue Study runs from Sunrise Valley Drive to the Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail. The goal is to transform this corridor from an auto-dominated suburban designed road to a multimodal urban designed street. This effort is expected to identify new and improved bicycle/pedestrian facilities and intersection treatments, as well as evaluate the potential reconfiguration of vehicular lanes and/or widths for current and future land use scenarios.
