Project Information
The Mason Neck Shared Use Path will consist of a 10-foot path adjacent to Gunston Road (northbound) from Julia Taft Way to the entrance of Pohick Bay Golf Course (5,500 feet total). The pedestrian and bicycle improvements include marked crosswalks, detectable warning surfaces, retaining wall and stormwater management facilities. The project is the final segment that will connect Route 1 to the entrance of Mason Neck State Park and the Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge.
HDR and WRA are handling the preliminary design and environmental responsibilities for the project, which was identified in the 2014 Countywide Trails Plan and Countywide Bicycle Master Plan.
