The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) invites you to join us and our behavioral health partners, for a FREE open house to provide answers and information on issues that you, your family, and your community are facing.

The Recovery Resource Open House will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the CSB’s Merrifield Center on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. In addition to CSB clinicians, representatives from a wide range of treatment providers will be available to answer questions and provide information on substance use disorder services available in Fairfax County and around the region. Providers include: Phoenix House, Inova CATS Program (Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Services), Inova Kellar Center, Sagebrush, Harrison House, Oxford House, the Chris Atwood Foundation, New Hope Church, Dominion Hospital, Encore Recovery Solutions, and others.

Addiction, or substance use disorder(s), are issues that affect tens of millions of people, and their families, in the United States. Addiction does not discriminate. It impacts children, teens, middle aged, and the elderly, as well as all ethnicities, genders, and economic sectors. You are not alone and there are resources that can help you or your loved ones here in Fairfax County.

In addition to providers, there will be presentations to help attendees learn more about addiction, recovery, and how to live a full, safe life without drugs or alcohol. Presentations will be on the half hour; stop in to visit, learn, and engage with us.

• 4 p.m. – Curious about symptoms of mental illness, substance use disorders, or both? Learn about the CSB’s Mental Health First Aid courses, which can help you identify someone who may need help and supply you with the tools and skills to support them with confidence.
• 4:30 p.m. – It’s Not Just Pot: Today’s cannabis contains at least 5-8 times more THC than the weed of 20 years ago; what harm is this causing our teens?
• 5 p.m. – Confronting Overdose Deaths in our Community: briefing of REVIVE! Overdose reversal training program which is available FREE to all.
• 5:30 p.m. – The hottest part of recovery: The Peer Support Movement is On Fire! Learn about the crucial role of people with lived experience and how to help others on their journey.
• 6 p.m. – Recovery: The New High. A person living a sober lifestyle shares his powerful story “from dope to hope.”
• 6:30 p.m. – No, It’s Not Your Fault: Family Role in Child’s Recovery. A local mom shares her family's experience and what she’s learned.

The first steps on a journey to a healthier lifestyle are to detect substance use dependency; followed by seeking help or treatment, then learning how to live a full, active life, without substances. Help to promote a community that believes in hope and recovery for all; help us increase understanding of the benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for mental and substance use disorders. Join us as we celebrate people in recovery, and echo the message that treatment is available, it’s effective and people do recover.
