Park and Ride Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How many Park and Rides are there in Fairfax County?

There are 49 Park and Rides in Fairfax County. They are owned and operated by several different entities, such as Fairfax County, private businesses, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Virginia Railway Express (VRE), and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). How much does parking cost?

Park and Ride lots in Fairfax County are free, except for those at Metrorail Stations. Passengers can pay for parking with a SmarTrip card or a credit card.

Is there reserved parking?

Parking is at a first come first serve basis at most facilities. WMATA has reserved parking spaces until 10 a.m. After 10 a.m., anyone can park in these spaces.

Can I park overnight at a Park and Ride?

Parking overnight at Fairfax County owned park and rides is allowed, but you must provide advance notice to FCDOT. Parking is at your own risk. Fairfax County is not responsible for any damage to your vehicle or its content while on its property. There is no parking for oversized vehicles (RV's, tractor trailers).

  • WMATA has long-term parking spaces at the Huntington and Franconia-Springfield Metrorail Stations.
  • For the lots owned by VDOT, you must contact VDOT Customer Service at 1-800-367-7623, TTY 711.
  • For privately-owned and VRE parking lots, there is no overnight parking.

Is towing enforced?

The county and the privately-owned entities reserve the right to have any vehicle towed if it is found in violation (e.g., expired tags, expired inspection sticker, abandoned, etc). Inoperable/disabled vehicles must be removed immediately. Please refer to the contact information below if you need further clarification.

Parking is strictly prohibited at all times in fire lanes, no parking zones, bus lanes, sidewalks, walkways, over pedestrian crosswalks, travel lanes and on any landscaping areas.

Can I park my bike there?

Bicycles must be parked in designated bicycle racks or lockers and shall not be secured to stairways, light poles, utility fixtures, parking devices, signs or any other object not specifically intended bicycle parking.

Am I allowed to skateboard or rollerblade there?

Absolutely no skateboarding or rollerblading is allowed at any county park and ride.

Can I post my flyers there?

Distribution of printed materials on Fairfax County-owned properties is strictly prohibited.

No posting of any printed materials are permitted on the bus shelters or bus stop signs.
