Celebrating Our Adoptive Families

Johnson Family making craftsDuring National Adoption Awareness Month in November, our theme was “Love Grows Through Adoption!” Fairfax County Department of Family Services recognized families who have partnered with our agency recently to open up their homes and welcome children through adoption.

When reunification with birth families is not a safe long-term option for children in foster care, we search for relatives who want to care for the child(ren). If no legally eligible relatives are identified, or if they are unable to care for the child(ren), we seek a permanent home through adoption.

This year, there were 17 children adopted from foster care into 11 families. In gratitude, our Foster Care and Adoption Program hosted an Adoption Month Celebration for those families who completed adoptions from foster care since November 2024. We were thrilled to have 5 families come out to celebrate!

Everyone seemed to enjoy having the chance to connect with other like-minded families who have had similar experiences. There were refreshments, gifts, and a very entertaining arts and crafts activity led by Board and Brush. There was also an informative presentation provided by the Northern Post Adoption Consortium about supports available to adoptive families.
