Looking for ways to connect with other resource parents? Ready to be a part of a supportive community of like-minded people? Look no further. We heard you! DFS Foster Care and Adoption is launching a series of in-person gatherings for YOU!

Community Caring & Learning (CCL) Groups are a supportive community for foster, adoptive, and kinship parents offering an environment of camaraderie, a space to discuss topics related to foster care and adoption as well as learn tips and skills from other resource parents. All sessions will be facilitated by seasoned resource parents. In-service training hours will be provided.

We’ll discuss:

  • Co-Parenting (or shared parenting) in foster care.
  • Helping Your Relationships Thrive while fostering or adopting.
  • Managing Expectations—addressing a mismatch between the expectations versus the reality of fostering or adopting.
  • Parental Attachment Styles.
  • Why Our Kids Behave the Way They Do (and what we can do about it).

The group will meet in-person from 6:30–8 p.m. on Mondays. The first session on April 13 will be held at 8350 Richmond Highway, Room 217, Alexandria VA 22309.

The remaining sessions will be held from 6:30–8 p.m. on April 27; May 4 and 18; June 1, 15, and 29 at Redeeming Grace Church, 5200 Ox Road, Fairfax VA 22030.

Child care and light refreshments will be provided. We encourage you to register in advance for each support group session, especially when child care is needed. However, you are welcome to drop-in if no child care is needed. Register online.
