The Fairfax County Foster Care & Adoption Association (FCFCAA) is gearing up for spring! Read on for the latest news, including upcoming events. If you’re new to fostering and are not already connected with the FCFCAA network, please email fcfcaamail@gmail.com to be added to our lists.

Mark your Calendar for FCFCAA’s Spring Get-together: Foster, adoptive and kinship families are invited to a free Family Service and Movie Night on Friday, May 29. Hosted by Formed Families Forward and FCFCAA, the event kicks off with a community service project in which the whole family can participate. After dinner together, children will enjoy a G-rated movie, structured activities and snacks, supervised by skilled child-care attendants. Parents, caregivers and interested older youth will view and discuss “ReMoved 3: Love is Never Wasted," a short dramatic film about a young boy who enters foster care and struggles to make sense of how he fits between two worlds and two mothers. More information, including registration, will be coming soon. Formed Families Forward offers training and support to formed families raising children and youth with special needs.

Save the Date: Parents’ Night Out: The next Fairfax Foster & Adoptive Parents’ Night Out (PNO) is scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 25, at a TBD location in Fairfax County. Hosted by local churches, these PNOs are great, FREE opportunities for you to get a break while your kids have some fun. Stay tuned for more details coming soon.

News from the Closet: Thanks to the Fairfax County Department of Family Services for the recent donation of new clothes to the Foster Closet. We also received several beautiful hand-made quilts for children - from infants (to be used as a play mat) through young teens. The quilts come in a variety of colors, designs and styles. These are truly a labor of love, made by a woman who was once in care herself. The Closet has clothes, equipment, toys and bedding available for any foster child in your care. If you are in need of anything, or have items to donate, please call 703-200-8722.

Special thanks! On behalf of all of our families, I want to extend our sincerest gratitude to Deborah Matthews for organizing a generous donation through The Our Children’s Fund of nearly 300 brand-new winter coats for kids in foster care. It’s great to know that our kids are staying warm (and in style!) this winter! The Our Children Fund provides "normalizing" items and experiences to children in the Fairfax County foster care system between the ages of birth and 17 years, and young adults between the ages of 18 and 21 if permanency is not achieved and addresses their otherwise unmet medical, social, emotional and education needs. Thanks for all you do!
