Practice and improve your conversational English so you are confident and prepared for employment. No registration required. Sessions are held every Tuesday from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. at VCW Fairfax Annandale Center (7611 Little River Turnpike, Suite 300W, Annandale, VA 22003).

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) offers workforce development services to eligible job seekers. Attend a virtual information session to hear more about WIOA as well as the other programs and services provided by the Virginia Career Works centers.

Apply Now if you want to make a difference for a child and you are available on the weekends. The BeFriend-A-Child Mentoring Program is a great opportunity for you to shape a child’s future. You can even work around your schedule to spend time with your mentee. Build up a child’s social skills, increase their self-esteem and help them overcome challenges. The next training for new mentors will take place virtually on Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Learn more about the program or apply online.

Don't let ongoing health problems stop you from living the life you enjoy. Fairfax County's Chronic Disease Self-Management Program is a free six-week group interactive workshop series for individuals who are interested in learning how to live better by effectively managing their ongoing health conditions. The workshop series will take place from 10 a.m.-Noon at Inova Prosperity, 2740 Prosperity Avenue, Fairfax, VA 22031. Register now.

Join Inova ElderLink and the Fairfax Area Agency on Aging for online training to help family and professional caregivers. Embody Beatriz as she goes through the challenges of progressive Alzheimer’s Disease, seeing how it affects her communication, thinking, and emotional well-being, while learning ways to help her feel safe, supported, and maintain a better quality of life. Session will be held from 10-11:15 a.m. via MS Teams. Register now.

Strangulation is one of the deadliest forms of domestic and sexual violence. Survivors strangled by a partner are seven times more likely to be killed by that partner in the future. Join Domestic and Sexual Violence Services and national experts from the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention for a comprehensive, one-day training on non-fatal strangulation (8 a.m.-4 p.m., Inova Center for Personalized Health Conference Center, 8100 Innovation Park Drive, Fairfax, VA 22031). In this training, you’ll learn to: 1) Understand key local, state, and federal laws; 2) use risk assessment and safety planning tools; and 3) intervene early to help prevent long-term harms and future homicide. CHECK OUT OLDER POSTS!

Beginning in September 2026, VDSS will replace all magnetic stripe EBT cards with chip-enabled cards that support both tap and chip-insert transactions. The move to chip-enabled EBT cards is a major step toward protecting customer benefits and reducing fraud. EBT cardholders should update their address before July 15, 2026, to get the new card on time. Update your address online at CommonHelp; call 703-324-7500; or email DFSMyCase@fairfaxcounty.govLearn more about chip cards and how they help protect your benefits.

Sheila Consaul has always been fascinated by historic properties. After spending 15 years restoring a historic lighthouse in Ohio to use as her summer home, she applied to Fairfax County Park Authority’s Resident Curator Program. Now, one year into her tenure as resident curator of Ash Grove, a historic home in Vienna, she has made significant progress restoring and preserving an important piece of Fairfax County history. Learn more about Sheila and her work to restore Ash Grove in the July issue of the Golden Gazette.
