Fairfax County has received reports of fraudulent emails targeting county vendors. The messages impersonate county employees and request payment to address purported vendor compliance issues.
Fairfax County does not require vendors to pay a deposit or fee to resolve a records or vendor compliance issue, and the county does not request vendor payments by email.
Vendors who receive an unexpected request for payment involving a county contract, vendor status or compliance issue should not respond or send payment. Instead, verify the request directly with their established Fairfax County contact using contact information they already have or information available on the county’s official website.
Email addresses and employee names can be spoofed. A message that appears to come from a Fairfax County address is not, by itself, confirmation that the message is legitimate.
The correct domain for county-related business is fairfaxcounty.gov. At this time, we are aware that emails are coming from the fraudulent domains fairfax-county.us and fairfaxcountyva.org.
