FAIRFAX, Va. – The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) welcomed eight new deputies following the graduation of Criminal Justice Academy Session 89 on September 18, at Centreville Baptist Church. During the ceremony, 43 recruits were sworn in as law
Recruits from FCSO trained side by side with recruits from the Fairfax County Police Department and the Town of Vienna Police Department. The graduating class includes eight graduates from the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office; 34 graduates from the Fairfax County Police Department and one graduate from Town of Vienna Police Department.
FCSO deputy recruits began their training at the Academy for Deputy School on February 24, with the rest of their class joining on March 21. Over the course of the program, they learned the fundamentals of being a law enforcement officer in Virginia, and in Fairfax County specifically.
Upon graduation, the new deputies will begin their careers with FCSO at the Adult Detention Center. This initial assignment provides them with valuable hands-on experience, helps strengthen their communication skills, and offers a comprehensive understanding of the agency and people it serves.
As part of the national 30x30 Initiative, which aims for women to make up at least 30% of law enforcement workforce, 29% of the recruits in this academy class are women. Currently, 24% of the agency’s sworn deputies are women, reflecting steady progress toward building a more inclusive and representative workforce.
