Become a Deputy Sheriff

The Fairfax County Sheriff's Office is seeking applicants for the position of Deputy Sheriff who have strong communication skills, are resourceful and have the desire to make a positive difference in the lives of the people we serve. Deputy Sheriff Recruits receive seven months of paid training to become sworn law enforcement officers with certifications in jail operations, court security and civil process.

As a Deputy Sheriff, you will carry out the core duties of the Sheriff's Office, including operating the Adult Detention Center, providing security for the Courthouse and courtrooms, and serving/executing civil law process on behalf of the courts. In addition to our core functions, the Sheriff’s Office is actively engaged with the diverse communities we serve.

Throughout your career with us, you will receive top-notch training and have opportunities to work in different operational and administrative areas of the agency as well as non-standing units.
