A protective order is not effective until the person is “personally served.” To be served, a law enforcement officer must give the protective order to the person from whom you want protection.
You can call the sheriff’s office Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 703-246-3227 ext 3 to obtain the status.
Your order will expire at 11:59 p.m., on the date listed on your order.
If the respondent violates the order and you are in immediate danger, you should call 911. If you are not in immediate danger, you should visit the Magistrate’s office to inquire about your options.
