Background

VDOT is improving almost seven miles of Route 7 from Reston Avenue to Jarrett Valley Drive in Fairfax County. The project will widen the road from four to six lanes, add shared-use paths, and make substantial intersection and other improvements along the corridor. These improvements, which align with Fairfax County's Comprehensive Plan, will increase capacity, improve safety and traffic flow, and enhance mobility for cyclists and pedestrians. The VDOT Project Number is UPC 99478.

Route 7 Widening Working Group is a collaborative effort that involves VDOT, the Fairfax County Department of Transportation, District Supervisors’ staff, other agencies, and community representatives regarding the scope and design of Route 7.

The purpose and goals of the working group are as follows:

  • Gather community input prior to re-initiating project design work to obtain a design that is sensitive to community needs
  • Develop a partnering relationship between the community and the designers
  • Prepare for public meetings, including a Citizens’ Information Meeting and a Public Hearing
  • Foster open communication between the design team and the public

Previously, VDOT and Fairfax County Department of Transportation hosted a Public Information Meeting for the Route 7 Corridor project on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at 6 p.m., at Colvin Run Elementary School, 1400 Trap Road, Vienna.
