Countywide Transit Network Study Resources

The Metropolitan Washington region is a complex area, with governance shared between multiple jurisdictions at the state and local level, and travel demands reaching across multiple jurisdictional boundaries. The travel demands within Fairfax County are both internal to the county, and interconnected with destinations at either end – in the core of the metro area and towards the outlying suburbs. It is crucial for Fairfax County’s transportation system, and particularly its public transit network, to work seamlessly with the transit networks of neighboring jurisdictions. The study is being coordinated with neighboring jurisdictions and concurrent planning efforts for regional transit.

Public Meeting Presentations and Materials

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation held a third-round meeting on July 10, 2013, at the Fairfax County Government Center. This public meeting presented a proposed concept for a High Quality Transit Network and highlighted the need for further coordination with ongoing concurrent studies in the Route 1, I-66, and Route 7 corridors. The Countywide Transit Network Study efforts have been deferred through spring 2015 to facilitate FCDOT participation in those concurrent studies, and as of spring 2015, the Countywide Transit Network Study will incorporate progress on the concurrent studies into a refined countywide High Quality Transit Network.
