WHEREAS, energy efficiency benefits communities by reducing household energy costs, improving air quality, easing strain on the electric grid, and helping create a healthier, more resilient environment for all who live and work in Fairfax County; and
WHEREAS, energy efficiency also supports community prosperity by fostering innovation and sustaining jobs in manufacturing, construction, engineering, and building technologies; and
WHEREAS, Fairfax County is leading by example through its Operational Energy Strategy, achieving a 13% reduction in electricity use for county operations since FY2018 and continuing to implement high efficiency energy systems and practices across its facilities, including constructing 49 LEED-certified buildings; and
WHEREAS, the county continues to help residents save energy and money through programs such as Fairfax Energy Compass, which supports homeowners in making informed energy improvements, the Energy Conservation Assistance Program which helps finance community energy projects; and the Sustain Fairfax Challenge, which encourages households, businesses, and organizations to celebrate and expand their sustainability actions; NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, on behalf of all residents of Fairfax County, does hereby proclaim October 1–7, 2026, as
Energy Efficiency Week
in Fairfax County and encourages all residents, businesses and community organizations to take meaningful action to reduce energy waste, support clean air and protect the environment for future generations.
