When the Energy Compass program launches in late summer 2025, it will follow these five simple steps.

  1. Resident reaches out to the program via a web form, phone number, or email address. These will go live on this website in late summer 2025. The program will help with most home energy systems, including:
    • Heating or cooling systems,
    • Water heating systems,
    • Appliances,
    • Lighting (both indoor and outdoor),
    • Insulation, windows, and doors,
    • Solar energy and battery backup storage,
    • And more!
  2. The Energy Navigator gathers information** from the resident about their home and interests to help customize their support. Each Energy Navigator is a building system technical expert hired by Fairfax County to help you save energy and make your home more comfortable by increasing its energy efficiency.
  3. The Energy Navigator calls the resident to provide assistance.
  4. The Energy Navigator sends a follow-up email to the resident summarizing resources shared during the call.
  5. The Energy Navigator follows up with the resident a few weeks later to check on progress and answer any remaining questions.

Whether you have basic questions about home energy systems, want more specifics about home energy options, or are looking for a deep dive into energy systems of your home, the Energy Navigator can guide you through the process. Here are some example questions to ask the Energy Navigator and get you started.
