Search General District Court

The General District Court strives to ensure equal access to justice for all parties having matters before the court. Interpreters for speech or hearing impaired persons and non-English speaking individuals will be provided by the court.

Spanish, Korean, and Vietnamese interpreters are available each day to assist with short matters. For any matters of significant length such as civil trials, specially set criminal and traffic trials, civil motions at 1:00PM on Wednesdays, preliminary hearings, etc., that need Spanish, Korean, or Vietnamese interpreters, these interpreters must be requested in advance of the court date in writing to ensure proper staffing.

Interpreters for all other languages need to be requested in writing in advance of the court date.

Please follow the instructions below if an interpreter is needed for: Fairfax County, Fairfax City, Town of Herndon, or Town of Vienna cases; probation officer visits; jail visits; or attorney/client meetings (only if meeting in the courthouse on a date other than the court date).

Criminal, Traffic, and Civil Dockets

  • Interpreter requests can be made by submitting the Interpreter Request Form in person in room 211 or in the division lobbies. The Interpreter Request Form can also be submitted by emailing it to GDCInterpreter@fairfaxcounty.gov
  • Please note that requests need to be filed at least 4 business days in advance of the court date. ASL (American Sign Language) interpreters must be requested at least 2 weeks in advance of the court date. The only exceptions are if the interpreter request is for an 8:30AM Bond Motion, 10:00AM Arraignment, or an attorney/client visit in the jail.
  • Any cancellations or changes to interpreter requests must be reported immediately by emailing GDCInterpreter@fairfaxcounty.gov

Please complete all sections of the Interpreter Request Form before submitting it to the court. If your case is continued to a new court date, a new Interpreter Request Form must be submitted for that new court date.
