The work that Dallice Joyner does for public health is invaluable.
Dallice, a Staff Development Specialist in the Department’s Office of Innovation, co-leads projects that promote and embed equity within programs throughout the agency. In addition to developing and implementing new employee orientations, Dallice facilitates courageous conversations about racism, racial justice, and equity throughout the Health Department. These conversations can be heavy, which is why, this Black History Month, Dallice encourages work-life balance and self-care.
“I’ve learned that, in order to do this work well, I also have to do me well,” Dallice explains. “And in doing me well, it requires that I stay in touch with who I am and remind myself that I matter,” she says.
Dallice defines self-care broadly. “Self-care can be anything, from taking a few minutes for yourself, to going on a walk, to spending time with friends and family. No matter how big or small the action, taking time to decompress and care for yourself is very important.”
“You can’t effectively take care of everybody else in your life and household, and being mindful of others in your workspace, if you’re not taking care of you...remember, you matter,” says Dallice.
Dallice recently shared her advice and perspective about self-care.
